Cochlear Implants

Unlike hearing aids which amplify sound, cochlear implants convert incoming sound to electrical signals comprehensible by the brain. These signals are transmitted via the auditory nerve to the brain where they are interpreted as sound and speech. Cochlear implants can be placed in one or both ears in the appropriate patient. Patients who may benefit from cochlear implants are children young enough to have sufficient brain plasticity to develop speech and older children and adults whose brains have already developed the capacity to process speech and language prior to sustaining severe hearing loss.

Our team has experience with implants produced by all three major implant device manufacturers allowing patients flexibility and choice as they navigate the path to hearing rehabilitation.
