Most tinnitus occurs in the presence of hearing loss and can be treated with hearing aids. Specific tinnitus management software within some hearing aids allow even greater relief for some patients. Tinnitus that has a pulsating quality or that matches a heart beat pattern requires additional evaluation. Tinnitus that is synchronous with the heartbeat can be reflective of inflammation, a tumor, a developmental anomaly, or a vascular abnormality. Pulse synchronous pulsatile tinnitus needs to be evaluated by an experienced physician and may need to be medically and/or surgically addressed.
