Dr. Carla V. Valenzuela is a board certified Otolaryngologist and fellowship trained Neurotologist. She earned her medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She then completed her residency in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis (Barnes Jewish Hospital). During this time, she also obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation and completed a two-year T32 research fellowship focused on investigating the origins of low-frequency hearing loss in endolymphatic hydrops and the use of electrocochleography in predicting cochlear implant performance. She then went on to complete her fellowship in Otology, Neurotology, and Skull Base Surgery at the University of Michigan where she received extensive training in disorders of the ear and skull base, including all three surgical approaches for the management of acoustic neuromas (vestibular schwannomas). 


Dr. Valenzuela is an active member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery and the American Neurotology Society. She has clinical expertise in surgery of the ear and lateral skull base, cochlear implants and bone conduction devices, chronic otitis media and cholesteatoma, tympanic membrane perforations, otosclerosis, acoustic neuromas (vestibular schwannomas), paragangliomas, temporal bone tumors, cerebrospinal fluid leaks, tinnitus, facial nerve disorders, and vestibular disorders.
